In this episode, I'll be focusing on how to identify low competition keywords that you can

actually rank for.

Every keyword research tool has some form of a competition score that

tells you how difficult it is to rank for a specific keyword phrase. The problem

with these keyword difficulty scores is that for the most part they are using a very

basic algorithm. On top of that, these numbers have no direct correlation to

your blog's domain authority. Rank IQ is the only tool whose competition score is directly

correlated to domain authority. For example, a keyword phrase with a competition score of 20

on Rank IQ means that if you have a domain authority of 20 or higher,

then your blog can comfortably compete for a first page ranking. The competition scores are also more

precise than the other tools because of the additional algorithmic equations used to determine the score for each keyword.

For those of you that are using a keyword tool other than rank IQ, you will want to go through two separate steps in order to identify the keywords that you can rank for.

The first step is to use the keyword difficulty score filters to narrow down your keyword searches.

An example of this would be doing a search for all phrases that contain the keyword, gardening.

Without the filters, there are 4,676 phrases that have a search volume of at least 50. When you set the keyword difficulty

filter to only include up to a difficulty score of 10, then the number of phrases drops to 2,489.
