this is recode media peter kofka that's me and today I've got great news. It's that I recently

traveled to Seattle and when I was there I got to interview Ken Jennings, the man who set

the world record for Jeopardy wins back in 2004 and has parlayed that into a full career.

He is currently the co-host of Jeopardy, which remains one of the most popular shows on TV.

This was a great interview.

There's a ton here for Jeopardy nerds, but also a discussion about the way the media environment has changed,

why Jeopardy works in that radically changed environment.

And really interestingly, to me, the real tension that Jennings and his coworkers feel about their desire

to modernize the show to try to reach new audiences because the old ones are going to go away.

And the fact that the people who watch Jeopardy today don't want it to change at all, ever.

Ken is really frank and candid and curious and he's a great talker. This is my platonic

ideal of a recode media interview. I also have some bad news. We've got the audio back from

the Crosscut's Ideas Festival who hosted our conversation and that audio is not very good because
