There are marriages that stretch quietly across decades. No headlines. Well, no headlines until suddenly there are. For nearly 40

years, William and Linda Stevenson shared a life in Delaware, a home, a family, a routine that,

from the outside, looks settled, stable, ordinary.

And then on a cold night in late December, police were called to that home.

By morning, Linda Stevenson was dead, and the man charged with killing her was her husband.

Before she became a name in a criminal case, Linda Stevenson was a person.

She was deeply loved and deeply rooted. Linda was 64 years old, a mother, a grandmother,

and a business owner. She had recently built her own bookkeeping business, something friends say

she took pride in. Linda was known as determined, loyal, and the kind of person who turned

clients into friends. She loved her family fiercely. Linda loved to travel. She loved gathering with friends, and she loved the Philadelphia

Eagles, winner lose. Her obituary speaks of laughter, resilience, and devotion. But one thing it does

not mention, her husband. Linda had been married to William, Bill Stevenson for

decades. Bill Stevenson was a known figure in Delaware, a businessman who once owned the Stone Balloon,

which is a legendary live music venue near the University of Delaware.

Now, long before Linda, Bill had another marriage, one that would later draw national attention.

In the early 1970s, he was married to a young woman named Jill Jacobs.

That woman would later become Dr. Jill Biden, first lady of the United States.

Now their marriage ended in 1975 and they had no children together. And years later, Bill married

Linda. And together they built a long life, and had one daughter, who would later

give Linda her beloved granddaughter. For decades, the Stevenson's lived quietly in Oak Hill, Delaware.
