This is Holy Family School of Faith.

Well, welcome to our Rosary meditation.

I am on one of the best spots in the world tonight. I am on the lake at Lock Lloyd with good friends, Tyler and Julie Oliver and

Wyatt and Kennedy. We're sitting on the boat on the lake. It's not the sea of

Galilee but it's pretty dang good. We've been having great conversation about

lives of the Saints and now we're going to pray the Rosary together.

So let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

Today is the feast of Uniparocera, Saint Uniparocera, the founder of California.

He was a Franciscan missionary who beginning in 1769 with his brother Franciscans founded 21 missions in what is now California, which became the cities of San Diego, San

Louis, Obispo, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Jose, Santa Cruz, Carmel, and others,

a total of 21 missions that became 21 major cities in California.

From his personal diary,

Uniprosera recounts an Indian attack at San Diego that endangered his life.

About this he later wrote, I held a picture of our Blessed and Spotless Queen, the Virgin Mary in one hand, and the crucifix in the other while arrows were raining everywhere and my

thoughts were that with such defense either I would not have to die or that I would die well, great sinner that I am. Ultimately he was unharmed and later reflected on California

missionary life. He writes,

Hardships they will face, speaking of future Franciscan missionaries.

These men who come to sacrifice themselves in so holy an enterprise as everyone knows,

where distances are so great. They are felt all the more keenly by one who is unwilling, unwilling to be deprived of anything.

However, I do not like to think that any of those who are coming are made of such poor clay.

They should be provided with a good stock of patience and charity, and their stay will be one of delight to them. It will enable them to amass riches,
