Good morning, I'm Ali Velshi. It is Saturday, June the 19th, June 10th, the day marking the true end of slavery in the United States of America. On this day, 156 years ago,

the Union Army General Gordon Granger announced in Galveston, Texas, that the Union had won the war

and that all enslaved Americans were free. It was more than two years after the Emancipation

Proclamation was signed. Today marks the

inaugural Juneteenth National Independence Day Federal Holiday, America's 11th Federal Holiday,

which was signed into law by President Biden on Thursday. This is a day of profound, in my view,

profound weight and profound power.

By making Juneteenth the Federal Holiday, all Americans can feel the power of this day and learn from our history.
