Mike Johnson Furor. Number two, House Democrats talk FISA and DHS funding. And number three, an interview

with D.C. mayoral candidate Kenyon McDuffie. But first, today is President Donald Trump's

deadline for Iranian officials to cut a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

If they don't by 8 p.m. Eastern time, the president said he'd, quote, blow up the whole country, unquote.

Particularly, Trump said he'd target Iran's infrastructure and energy production facilities.

We will be monitoring that situation very closely here at

Punch Bowl News. Now, on to Speaker Mike Johnson. The House returns April 14th. It's a week from today,

actually, and the Republican leadership isn't going to bring up the DHS funding bill that the Senate

sent back across the Capitol last week. Johnson and the House

Republican leadership team will wait until there's some progress on a GOP reconciliation push before

they schedule a vote on the bill to fund nearly all of the Department of Homeland Security,

except for ICE and Border Patrol. There's a decent amount of anger directed at the Speaker among his Reagan file members right now.

We wrote, one of the cardinal sins of being a congressional leader is guiding your membership into a Box Canyon with no way out, and then immediately reversing course, which is what House Republicans say Johnson did by calling the Senate's DHS funding bill a, quote, joke, only to turn around and say that that very bill was the answer to ending the funding impasse.

Despite all the frustration, we wrote in AM that we don't think that House Republicans are going to try to dump Johnson.

He has the seemingly unshakable support of Trump.
