Their code of ethics keeps them silent while they're on the bench.

And even after they retire, most of them choose to stay out of the spotlight.

Their culture is defined by restraint.

So when judges do speak publicly, you should really pay attention because something is likely very wrong.

And today, the alarm is not just coming from the usual corners, the activists and the pundits.

It's also coming from a growing number of judges who spent their lives upholding the rule of law

and who now say that what they're witnessing

is something that is happening to the American way of life that is both dangerous and

unprecedented.

These retired judges warn that American democracy is beginning to unravel after months of

the Trump administration's relentless assault on core democratic institutions.

In interviews with the Washington Post, several former state and federal judges

describe a judiciary under incredible strain, a moment when compliance with the court and its

rulings, the bedrock of our legal order, can no longer be assumed.

There is now a documented pattern of the Trump administration ignoring,

defying or circumventing court orders altogether. In these former judges, they warned that this

behavior severely weakens the separation of power that has defined the United States for more than

200 years. This steady stream of attacks on the judiciary,
