Hey, everybody, welcome back to Cold Case Murder Mysteries.

I'm your host Ryan Krause, joining you once again for the third installment in the Jean-Beney series,

in which we're going to indulge a deep analysis of the infamous ransom note, which has left

interested parties divided regarding its origin. While some take the note at face value,

meaning that a kidnapper seeking a hefty ransom payout from the wealthy Ramsey's authored

the note, others believe the words were penned in the context of a cover-up after a staged crime

that was designed to conceal something sinister that occurred within the family itself,

or even just an accident. Regardless of the truth, what law enforcement and the public were left

with in the aftermath consisted of an incoherent criminal narrative,

in the sense that the note told us that Jean Bonnet had been kidnapped by a group of foreign

individuals seeking a six-figure ransom, yet her dead body was discovered inside the home

shortly thereafter, bound, strangled, and bludgeoned, seemingly as the result of a violent

sexual assault by a sadistic predator who obviously left the home without the girl in tow.

The first question we would need to ponder in this sequence of events is why, if the kidnappers wanted a ransom, they left Jean Bonnet's body in the home.

It's often cited by those in favor of the intruder theory that, quote-unquote, something went wrong

during the sexual assault in the basement, such as Jean-Beney screaming or crying out in some way

that would garner attention from those

who were sleeping upstairs. Yet the autopsy would show that the blow to the head occurred prior

to the strangulation by way of the garot that ultimately killed the girl. If the intruder feared that

those who were sleeping upstairs were awakened by his actions,

and to the extent he needed to cause Jean Bonnet's death to quiet her,

why did he remain in the home with her, and do so in a place, the wine cellar,
