0:07.1	Today, I am going to share a message with you from our 2017 summit here in New York City,
0:15.4	and it's called John the Baptist, the unlikely, emotionally healthy leader.

0:23.2	And John the Baptist is a figure that I have loved studying and learning from for years.
0:32.8	And he really is unlikely as an emotionally healthy leader because he was so strange.
0:39.1	I mean, the guy is crude, he's rough, he's almost fanatical, he doesn't care about his food or clothing,
0:43.6	living in the desert, and he merges, you know, and has a very short ministry, and then his
0:50.2	head is cut off and he's gone. But he's extraordinary for three reasons and a great
0:56.5	model for us of leadership. Because number one, he's a very, he knows himself and he knows God. He's
1:02.8	very clear about who he is and who he's not. And even though he came from a highly respected family,
1:08.3	his father was a priest, Zachariah and a Levite. He was the oldest
1:13.1	son, firstborn, so he should have been a priest as well. But he doesn't go the respectable route.
1:17.3	And he sets up basically a church in a desert after many years. And people have to travel to him.
1:22.2	Talk about a bad strategy. He doesn't go to Jerusalem in his 20s and build a network and platform. He just seems
1:30.4	like he's wasting his time in his desert. But he's just so free from performing and impressing
1:36.9	people. And when the Pharisees in the Sadduce, he show up at his church in the desert, he doesn't
1:42.3	preach in front of them. In other words, he wasn't
1:47.1	conscious of himself. He preaches to them, just like anybody else who is there in the audience.
1:52.4	He's just, he's free from impressing people and performing. He's not a show off. He, he doesn't
1:57.9	care what people think of him. And, you know, we tend to show special respect to people
2:02.9	who are celebrities and wealthy and powerful and beautiful and the smartest. Not for John. He is
