He also teaches linguistics, American studies, and music history at Columbia University.

He's a contributing editor at The Atlantic.

He writes for the New York Times.

He's the host of the language podcast, Lexicon Valley, and also the author of over 20 books,

including nine nasty words, English and the gutter, then noun forever.

Now, one of the most important arguments you make in Woke Racism is that anti-racism is

more of a religion than an ideology.

Can you walk us through that argument a little bit?

Well, roughly what I mean is that it's based on a lot of the fundamental tenets of Christianity.

And so the way people are encouraged to think of white privilege is almost eerily similar

to the way people are encouraged to think about original sin.
