Hello my name is John Legend and welcome to Radio Headspace and to Monday morning. I'll

be guest hosting Radio Headspace this week and I'm so happy to be here. If you don't know,

I'm a musician, husband, father, and a huge fan of Headspace. So today we're going to

talk about falling in love with a passion. This isn't about romantic love or work, it's

about a hobby or an activity. Something that's just for you. For me, it's the piano. So I'm

going to tell you a bit about my relationship with the piano and then we'll discuss the

importance of finding, cultivating, and doing something you really enjoy. I grew up in a town

called Springfield, Ohio. I was the second of four kids. My father and mother lived with

us. They were very into music. My mother was the church choir director. My father sang in

the choir and played the drums. So I grew up in the church and I grew up around a lot of music.

And in my home with my siblings and my parents, one of the centerpieces of our living room

was a tall upright piano and I begged my mother, could I take piano lessons?

And so she signed me up for a piano lesson at a little music store called Kinder Music Store

on Main Street in my hometown and I would go there once a week and start to learn how to play

this piano that was sitting in our living room. I had this drive. I wanted to be good at this

thing that I loved. I wanted to be able to play music for other people. I grew up in the church
