So we'll go ahead and get started here in just a second.

And when we get started, we're picking up in gospel according to St. John,

chapter 19, verse 17 is where we'll be picking up.

As usual, I can now say that it is there. The first Bible study on the Gospel of John with my introduction is available online if you want to go back and listen to it from several

months ago.

But just to get us caught up to where we are after last time,

essentially last time we had just concluded the time before last, sort of the lengthy farewell discourse that Jesus gave to his disciples.

And so last time we picked up with Judas bringing the temple guards at the behest of the high priest out to arrest Jesus in the Garden of Gassimony. We read about his

arrest and his sort of sham trial in front of the chief priest and during which St. Peter denied him

three times as we read about. And then we read about his final trial

after he was turned over to pilot. And right at the conclusion, last time we saw sort of one of the

threads we've been seeing all the way through

the gospel according to St. John, which was this idea that these Judean authorities, as represented

especially by the chief priests, though they claimed to worship God the Father, and though they claimed to be the

children of Abraham, remember Jesus several times that, you know, if you were the children of

Abraham, you would do the things that Abraham did, but rather, you know, you were the children

of your father of the devil.

He said to them, you know them if you truly knew the father

you would recognize me
