Hello, there I'm Chuck Todd and this is the Chuck Todd cast.

So we are now facing one of the worst case scenarios in Afghanistan.

Not the worst, you know, it's not a firefight to get out.

That would be the ultimate worst case scenario.

But this one's pretty bad.

When President Biden decided to move forward with the military withdrawal in Afghanistan,

there was an assumption that the country might fall to the Taliban over time, but instead

the collapse took place in about two weeks.

Now that the U.S. departure is nearly complete, the country is prime for the return of regional

warlords, perhaps terrorist hideouts for al-Qaeda, the Islamic State, maybe some other new version

of that.

So how bad is it going to get in Afghanistan?

We'll join in today.

Somebody who's been dealing with this problem for just about the entire 21st century, former

CIA director John Brennan.

He was in charge of the agency from 2013 to 2017, but it's been an integral part of national

security policy really since the attacks on 9-11.
