Welcome back to the Casey Adams show. Today we are currently in Honolulu, Hawaii, and I am joined by Jim Baraha, the CEO of the Honolulu Marathon. Thanks so much for coming on the show, Jim.

So it's my first marathon. I flew out here from Los Angeles, and I've been looking forward to sitting down with you because not only have you built the fourth largest race in the entire USA, but you've been a runner for quite some time, and I'm excited to learn from you and to dive into your story.

So what does this 50-year anniversary marathon mean to you?

I'm old.

Yeah.

My first marathon that I ran was 50 years ago.

In 1973, June 1973, Toledo, Ohio, which is known as a Glass City.

And it's called the Glass City Marathon.

And ran my first marathon there.

And that coincidentally happened to be the first year of this Honolulu Marathon, 1973, 171 finishers.

Never dreamed that I'd ever go to Hawaii, let alone live in Hawaii and then somehow be part of this incredible event,

Quite a journey. And I think it's been a journey for the Honolulu marathon from those humble

beginnings to now our 50th anniversary. And coming through COVID, which is very rough for everybody

on every level. Yeah. We're very excited to fire that starting gun on Sunday, and it's quite a scene

there at the start. It's dark. It's very much like a movie set, because it's dark, and the

fireworks go off with the starting gun, and it's quite exhilarating and leads many first-time
