Romans chapter 9, starting in verse 31.

It says in Romans 931, but Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness,

hath not attained unto the law of righteousness.

Wherefore?

Because they sought it not by faith,

but as it were, by the works of the law.

For they stumbled at the stumbling stone, or that stumbling stone.

As it is written, behold, I lay in Zion, a stumbling stone, or that stumbling stone. As it is written, behold, I lay in Zion,

a stumbling stone and a rock of offense, and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Interesting here, Paul is reiterating something we've been going over the past several weeks.

What really saves you? Are you saved by keeping the law? And Paul makes the point,

the law served its purpose to convict us all of sin. That's why the law exists. Is the law done?

And are we finished with the law? Well, no. The Lord uses the law even to this day

to show that there's no one righteous, not even one. And that's one of Paul's major points that he's

been hammering home. And so he sort of reiterates what he's been talking about when he says,

so Israel, they weren't made righteous by keeping the law. But there was a stumbling block.

And this is where he talks about a theme that you and I should know about.

I think it's good for a Christian to be versed in this rock that's a stumbling block or a stumbling stone.

A rock of a fence, as it's called here in verse 33.

Now, it's interesting because, you know,

I love where we're at in the Bible, is where we're at in the world and life and what's going on.
