And I've had a tradition for the last three years.

Every Thursday, wherever I was in the world or the United States,

I would get up and make a b-line for my computer or for my local newsstand

to grab the stranger Seattle's finest newspaper

and quickly thumb through to the best column I would say in the whole paper.

It rivaled maybe only by Ionautomus and that's the drunk of the week.

And this showed up about three years ago and I didn't know it was going to be in there.

And it was like a little gift from heaven.

And the angel who brings that gift your way each week is Kelly O.

She's a photojournalist, a Michigan transplant living here in the Northwest

and really somebody who creates much joy in my life every week.

How did you get this job of taking the photos and doing the writing for drunk of the week?

It was actually an accident. Someone else came to me.

I'm not going to say names, but someone at the paper was like,

I'm going to write this new column where I have to go to bars and talk to people and,

oh, God, show me how to use that digital camera.
