Hi, friends. I am Annie F. Downs. Let's read the Gospels. The Gospels are the first four books of the New Testament and the Bible, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

These are the stories of Jesus Christ's life on earth, the friendships and the parables, the sacrifices, the meals, the miracles.

We will read three chapters a day and finish in 30 days, so each month we'll read all four books.

This month we have started in the book of John. If you didn't hear yesterday, go back and listen to John 1 through 3.

For many of us, this is our first time listening through the Gospels, and I think this book is a great place to begin our journey this month.

As January continues, we'll read Luke next and then Matthew and then Mark.

And each month will actually be a little different, but we want to start this year with a fresh lens to these stories.

We'll use multiple translations over the next few months, but I want to start this year off reading from the Bible.

I've had for years the one I read from most mornings. It's a quest study Bible and the NIV 84 translation.

Here is how every day we'll look. I will read three chapters to you. You can listen or read along in your own Bible, and then I'll pray. That's it.

So today is January 2, day two, and I'll be reading John chapters four through six, and the translation I'll be reading from this month is NIV 84.

John chapter four, Jesus talks with a Samaritan woman.

The Pharisees heard that Jesus was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John.

Although, in fact, it was not Jesus who baptized but his disciples.

When the Lord learned of this, he left Judea and went back once more to Galilee.

Now he had to go through Samaria, so he came to a town in Samaria called Sikhar.

Near the plot of ground, Jacob had given to his son Joseph.

Jacob's well was there, and Jesus tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.

When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, will you give me a drink? His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.

The Samaritan woman said to him, you're a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?

For Jews did not associate with Samaritans. Jesus answered her.
