Hello and welcome to Storytime for grownups.

I'm Faith Moore, and this season we're reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.

Each episode, I'll read one chapter from the book,

pausing from time to time to give brief explanations so it's easier to follow along.

It's like an audiobook with built-in notes.

So brew a pot of tea, find a cozy chair,

and settle in. It's story time. Chapter 37. We are two chapters away from the end of Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. I'm so happy to be here with you. Have you ever been reading a book and suddenly you get to the end and you didn't know it was the end because actually the book has several pages of like notes or

acknowledgements or maybe like they put in the chapter from the next book in the series or

something like that. Whenever that happens to me, I'm incredibly angry. Like, I always want to know how much book is left.

And when I'm holding the book, I feel like I know because there's this many pages left. And if suddenly

I get to the end, but I didn't know it was the end, I feel incredibly cheated. So if you are that

kind of person, I would like to just tell you now so that you know because you don't have a book that you're holding, although I know some of you do. Some of you are reading along with me, and I love that. I love to picture you

guys reading along with me, but a lot of you are not, and that's great too. So I just want to tell

you chapter 38, so the one that comes after this is more like an epilogue. It's a much shorter

chapter that is kind of like the wrapping up chapter,

and Bronte even calls it conclusion. So I want you to know that this chapter, Chapter 37,

is in some ways the end of the story. There is more story in Chapter 38. It doesn't just completely

end here, but 38 is a shorter chapter.

It's more of an epilogue.

This is where we kind of wrap up the main story.

So I want to tell you that so that it doesn't feel to you like what I was just describing of getting to the end of a book and suddenly realizing that you're there when you thought

there were like pages and pages to go.
