So, Jacksonville Jaguars back in 2022. They had first pick in the draft for the second

straight year. It was Trayvon Walker. It was Aidan Hutchinson. It was Trayvon Walker. It was Aidan

Hutchinson. And Hutchinson surely secretly wishing and hoping and praying that they wouldn't take

him so he could play for his hometown Detroit Lions. And that's how it worked out. Trayvon Walker.

His contract was picked up fifth year, and the deadline for doing it is early May.

We'll be hearing more and more about 2022 first-round picks, Devin, who have had their fifth-year option picked up.

He had 10 and a half sacks, 13 tackles for loss, 15 quarterback hits, two force

fumbles in 2024. So, hey, you know, if I'm Trayvon Walker, I'm saying let's not talk about

picking up my option. Let's talk about extending my contract. And that window opens after

three years. And some teams will get it done

with a first round pick who has proven he deserves it after three years. And some will try

to drag their feet through that fourth year. Because if you can get that guy to play under the

fourth year of his first round, slotted rookie contract, you are getting high-end performance at not much money.

That happened with the Vikings and Justin Jefferson, the Bengals and Jamar Chase, the Cowboys and Michael Parsons.

And you never pay in hindsight for that fourth year.

It's all about going forward.
