A major consideration for the Italian government into the future.

You will recall that there have been so many changes of Italian government since the Second

War that it's difficult to keep count? Well there's a better idea.

Lorenzo, I understand that Georgia Maloney and her party are advancing a change of

how the Prime Minister is chosen and what it will mean for the

stability of the Parliament. What is proposed and will it pass? Good evening to

Let me say that the number of governments

that we had in Italy after the Second World War

is in the order of 68.

So there is a clear need of implementing a system that can offer to the Italian nation a certain

stability in terms of duration of government.

So this reform that has been approved this afternoon by the Prime Minister Cabinet with an unanimous vote by all the parties of the coalition is proposing three major changes. The first one is that the Prime Minister is elected

or let's say is chosen by election by the people during the electoral votes. The second one is that the Prime Minister must be a parliamentarian.

While in the past, there were also the possibility of having the so-called technical government

led by somebody that who was not a parliamentarian but a man

chosen among the civil society and and the third point is very important is the premium for the

majority that win the election giving them the opportunity to have the 55% of the votes.

Clearly, this is a reform that needs to go

through Parliament approval,
