Summary

In this episode of "The Investigation," Mark Corallo, the former spokesperson for President Trump's private legal team, shares his unique and unfiltered insight into inner-workings of the Trump administration during the early days of the Mueller probe, describing the "problematic" incidents and what he calls "reckless" behavior that he says influenced his decision to leave. As one of the approximately 500 witnesses interviewed by the special counsel's office, Corallo also sets the record straight about what he told Robert Mueller's team about high-ranking White House officials, and discusses whether what he saw was obstruction or naiveté.

Welcome to The Investigation. I'm Kira Phillips with my co-host, Senior Executive Producer Chris Vlasto and my colleague's senior investigative producer Matt Mosque. All this week, we are bringing you brand new episodes daily as the impact of the special counsel's conclusions ripple through Washington and his calls for the

Mueller reports release ramp up. The president says he has no objections to the report being made public,

0:28.0

but there are still hurdles. The top Republican in the Senate, Mitch McConnell right now is

0:32.0

blocking a measure that would release the full reporter call for its release. He says that the

attorney general needs to even the

0:37.8

space to decide what should and should not be made public. And today we're joined by a guest who has a

0:42.7

pretty unique perspective in this investigation, Mark Corallo. He's the former spokesperson for

0:48.0

President Trump's private legal team. And Mark has spent much of his career working in public relations.

0:52.9

He was the director of public affairs for the Department of Justice when Robert Mueller was the director of the FBI.

0:59.6

And then during the investigation into Russian interference during the 2016 election,

1:05.0

he was actually interviewed by the special counsel's office as well.

1:08.6

Mark, thanks for being with us.

1:09.9

Great to be with you.

1:10.9

All right. Well, the big story, the Mueller probe, it's over. Has justice been served here?

1:17.3

Yeah, I think so. I mean, I had said to everybody from the outset, you've got to trust whatever

1:21.8

Bob Mueller comes up with. Everybody knows that I hold Bob Mueller in high esteem. I worked with him. I think he's probably one of the most honest guys I've ever met. And, you know, one of the few true public servants I've ever known. So, you know, he's done his job as I knew he would thoroughly, completely. He followed every fact. And he came up with the conclusions that I think that a lot of

1:46.7

us expected that there wasn't going to be any finding of collusion between the Trump campaign

1:51.8

and the Russians. And, you know, it just took a long time. But that's because he's thorough.

1:58.0

And it's because people definitely, I'm sure, resisted talking to him.

2:02.4

And I'm sure there were plenty of people who, as we've seen, didn't tell the truth.

2:06.9

You didn't resist talking to him?

2:08.5

No, I never would. You know, I had nothing to hide. I knew that the kind of operation that Bob Mueller runs is not about trapping people. It's not about
