I will tell you all the truth despite being a professional at managing my mind and having been a reproductive rights litigator in my past life which is also a pretty high stress career where I had to learn to manage my fears. I have had to go to

myself quite a lot on what we see happening in the world around us these days

especially as a woman here in the US where our rights are being turned back and reduced from the

victories that we had gained.

These political developments are real and they're happening, but our socialization also impacts how we

respond to them and how we respond to everything in our personal life as well

because part of the socialization that women get is that we are helpless and that we can't really impact things and we can't really make

a difference in society and big picture issues and that we are not smart and that we don't know what to do.

Right, we're just kind of generally socialized to feel like ineffectual and to kind of default,

to overwhelm and to kind of giving up.

And that works to the patriarchy's advantage.

So I think it's so so important to learn

how to manage all of our anxiety, whether it's caused by our thoughts about our partner or

our boss or global warming or the presidential election.

There are things you can do to help yourself deal with your anxiety and when you do that you actually

have way more emotional resources to solve problems whether that's in your own life

or in the body politic like learning to change the way that you think to manage

your anxiety and to produce less anxiety always leaves you better equipped to give back,

whether that's to yourself, to your family,
