I welcome my colleague Malcolm the online conference of President's major American Jewish organizations.

We go immediately to headlines from the Middle East about the hostages held by Hamas during the extension of the ceasefire, if that's what it is.

Headline, Rubio, meaning the Secretary of State, says Boler, that would be the representative from the United States to Hamas.

Rubio says, Boler's one- off, that's a quote, meeting with

Hamas so far, quote, hasn't borne fruit. Malcolm, a very good evening to you. Why are we talking to

Hamas directly? Good evening to you. Good evening. That's a very good question, one that's being

discussed widely, especially because of reports that Israel's reaction was quite

negative when they learned about it because they had not been consulted. He in turn, Adam Bueller,

who is the special envoy for hostages worldwide, but focused a lot now on the hostage

negotiations, met with Hamas directly, which is something

the United States has generally avoided doing, talking directly with terrorist entities,

and did so without telling Israel.

But he was focused, he said initially on the American hostage there are three dead and one

living amongst the Israeli hostages who are American citizens and also he he's working in

concert supposedly with Whitkoff who is the special envoy for Middle East and has been

heavily involved in all of the negotiations, he has called for Hamas to start by disarming

and leaving. And it's a statement he made following those negotiations as he wings his way

to Qatar, where there will be negotiations now on the

hostages Israel's also sent a delegation there and the I think that the there are hostages
