Marcus Freeman has brought in a totally different type of athlete to Notre Dame's roster.

They aren't just overtly big and okay overall in athleticism. They have guys right now that can go get it,

and the team's speed has increased twofold since his tenure began. But the question is still the

same. Can they finally beat one of the big dogs when they get to the championship brink?

And while Indiana should and will demand their respect, until Notre Dame beats a Georgia, Texas,

Ohio State, or even Oregon, the jury will still be out. Brian Kelly won a lot of games.

He should have beat the teams that he did. But when it came time, time and time and again,

the Irish faced a big dog, they would get eaten. I can still see Eddie Lacey

running through that defense like the plague, are them almost beating Georgia, but not quite.

This is Freeman's first big postseason opportunity, and he could be the one to break them free

from this dry spell that they have been on against the college football elite. There have also been

some pretty low lows since Freeman took over. They lost to Marshall and Northern Illinois this year.

And there haven't been some extreme highs that some have waited on. And all that and the perception

of who Notre Dame now is could change if the Irish could make a run in the college football

playoff. They are also on the

weaker side of the bracket, but as fast as he could rise in the eyes of the Irish fateful,

a loss to in-state foe Indiana in their own house could shatter any expectation of Notre Dame

entering a new and beautiful Renaissance era. David Cohn, former Michigan quarterback, knows a little bit about playing Notre Dame.
