Good morning again, everyone.

Now we'll talk about a big new investigation into ICE in New York from the news outlet

the city, which uncovered what appears to be a pretty

glaring pattern of discrimination in the agency's street arrests across New York City, Long Island,

and New Jersey. The investigation found that more than 93% of the people picked up by ICE and

what are called street arrests were from Latin American and

South American countries, even though Latinos make up a much smaller share of the undocumented

population in the region. Now, this investigation focuses specifically on these street arrests,

not the arrest happening inside immigration courts, for example, which tend to attract more

reporters, elected officials, protesters, and media coverage.

But the street arrests that this investigation focused on are different and actually seem to be

a lot more common.

According to reports, ICE agents have been picking up people in residential neighborhoods,

outside train stations, near grocery stores, while people are walking to work or walking their

dogs, things like that. I saw a story a news day the other day about how these soccer leagues on Long

Island have diminished and how many people are participating

in them because some people are immigrants and presumably undocumented and they're just staying away.

And the investigation found these arrests were heavily concentrated in Latino neighborhoods like

Corona Queens as well as Hempstead and Brentwood, for example,

on the island. In a lot of these cases, too, ICE agents claimed they were looking for someone

else, someone they actually had a warrant for, but then detained a different person anyway
