Today we’re going to answer the question, “is carbonated water healthier than non-carbonated water?”
I could find no evidence that carbonated water is better or worse for you than non-carbonated water. However, when I consume carbonated water, my digestion is better.
It could be because:
• Carbonic acid could buffer the pH
• It acidifies the digestive system
Bottled water pH — 7
Perrier pH — 5.5-5.8
Coca Cola pH — 2.5
Battery acid pH — 1.0
When you go below 7, things are more acidic. Because the stomach has the lowest pH of any part of the body, carbonic acid being a weak acid, might be better than regular water for some people.
Types of carbonated water:
Seltzer water — no minerals, carbonated
Club soda — minerals, carbonated
Tonic water — Quinine, carbonated

1:15.0 | And if you make something more acid, you're going to absorb more minerals, |
1:18.0 | you're going to digest a little better with the protein, |
1:21.0 | but there's not really any objective proof other than people just saying, I like carbonated |
1:25.4 | water better. |
1:26.4 | If we take a look at bottled water, there's a pH of seven that's just neutral. |
1:32.4 | Perrier has a pH of 5.5 to 5.8. |
1:38.0 | So when you go below 7 things are more acidic. |
1:42.4 | And if you go from a 7 to a 6 just by one whole number, 6 is 10 times more |
1:48.8 | acid than 7. So 5.5 to 5.8 is acidic. |
1:52.8 | But let's take a look at Coca-Cola, which has a pH of 2.5. |
1:57.1 | Very acidic. |
1:58.2 | If you think about stomach acid, that's one to three. |
2:02.4 | That's very, very acidic. |
