Hello, Next Picture Show listeners. If you're a longtime fan of this podcast or any of the other podcasts I've been on with the same group of people, by now you're probably pretty familiar with my antipathy towards films based on true stories. I don't trust them to get the story right, and I do trust them to bend the truth in support of whatever message they're trying to get across. Now, that can be a good

thing or a bad thing, depending on the message in the story, but these films are very rarely

transparent about exactly how much they're reshaping reality. However, because I have such

strong feelings about movies based on real stories, I also have really strong feelings about the stories behind movies.

I love what's real in this movie type columns,

and I love it when critics dig into the real story behind a film.

What really happened?

Why the film reshaped the reality the way it did,

and basically what the creative choices were that gave us what we actually see on screen.

That is why I'm authentically excited to be able to tell you about Truth versus Hollywood,

a new film and TV podcast from Audio Boom, hosted by film lovers David Chen and Joanna Robinson of the Decoding Westworld and Clash of King's podcasts.

David's a long-time fan of our work. I've spent a lot of time talking film with him on the

slash film podcasts. And the projects he and Joanna have worked on together have always been

informative, thorough, thoughtful, and really entertaining. So I'm really looking forward to

Truth versus Hollywood. They're planning on digging into well-known films and talking about

how similar they are to the stories that inspired them.

They're going to interview experts, talk to witnesses, dig up old audio recordings of interviews

with people at the time, look into the source materials.

They're going to get to the bottom of all the things that inspired movies like Munich, American

gangster, and the social network.

Now the podcast premieres on Friday, June 12th on Audio Boom. There's
