we're happy to have you with us so in our last episode we discussed the haunting robert wise's

nineteen sixty three adaptation of shirley jackson's the haunting of hillhouse this week we turned to

shirley starring elizabeth moss as a fictionalized version of jack, a housebound woman with an acidic response

for every human interaction she's forced to endure. Her husband, the literary critic Stanley Edgar

Hyman, played by Michael Stoolberg, doesn't share this attitude, inviting a young professor named Fred,

played by Logan Lerman, and his pregnant wife Rose, played by Odessa Young, to share their home

for a little bit.

Then, more or less compelling them to stick around to serve as help

and manage Shirley's behavior while he continues to cheat on her, openly and unapologetically.

Jackson resists the arrangement until she sees an advantage to it,

recruiting Rose to help research material for her latest novel,

based on the recent disappearance of a young college co-ed.
