Hey there, from CNN. I'm David Rind with the five things you need to know for Wednesday,

December 10th.

Let's start with President Donald Trump's speech last night in Pennsylvania, where he debuted his

administration's new messaging on the economy, which basically boils down to, yes, prices are

high, but it's Democrats' fault.

They caused the high prices, and we're bringing them down.

During that same 90-minute speech last night, he also called concerns about affordability

a hoax, before acknowledging he'd been encouraged not to say that because it'd be misconstrued.

But while Trump debates whether there's an affordability crisis in America, the divided

Federal Reserve is sent to announce interest rates.

Today's decision will likely be the Fed's toughest call since at least September of last year,

in part because they're flying somewhat blind.

CNN's Matt Egan explains why.

If this plays out as expected, this would lower the Fed rate by almost two full percentage

points from the peak last year.

But we also have to think about why the Fed is cutting.

It's not because inflation is down.

It's right where it was when the year started.

It's really because unemployment is up and Fed officials want to act now to shore up the

shaky job market.
