President Donald Trump says the U.S. has taken control of an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela.

He didn't give many details, only that it was seized, quote, for very good reason.

But he says the administration will release more information soon.

A person familiar with the matter says the tanker was headed to Cuba.

The move risks further escalating tensions with Venezuela, where Trump has ramped up a pressure

campaign aimed at forcing the nation's leader Nicholas Maduro out of power.

Trump says he hasn't spoken to Maduro recently and declined to say who owns the seized

tanker.

Shortly before Trump's announcement, Maduro told CNN from a pro-government rally in Caracas.
