Hey there from CNN. I'm David Rind with the five things you need to know for Thursday, January 15th.

President Donald Trump is warning he might invoke the centuries-old Insurrection Act to deploy U.S. troops to Minnesota.

Comes after heated clashes erupted in Minneapolis overnight, after federal agent shot and injured a man who allegedly assaulted him.

Last night CNN's Whitney Wilde was right near where the shooting happened.

Multiple law enforcement agents, we believe they were federal agents, was throwing tear gas

canisters and flashbangs at the crowd.

And it wasn't immediately clear what prompted that, but what was clear was the impact.

Tear gas canisters were hitting the

feet of protesters. They were exploding at the feet of our team here. And then we were all in case

in a pretty thick cloud of tear gas smoke that just hung in the air for at least an hour.

It's worth noting this isn't the first time Trump has threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act.

Last fall, he did the same in response to anti-ice protests in Portland, but he didn't actually

go forward with it.

The last time a president invoked the act was in 1992 when California's governor asked

President George H.W. Bush for help handling the race riots in LA.

There's been a legal setback for a prominent Palestinian activist.
