Today on the podcast is your 2023 USATF Steeplechase Champion, Krusty Gear!
Krissy runs for HOKA NAZ Elite. Originally from Fort Myers, Florida, she was a six-time state champion in track. She began her college career at Furman University. Later, she transferred to the University of Arkansas, where she won an SEC title in the DMR and was a part of the NCAA championship team in the distance medley relay. Krissy's professional career took off when she joined HOKA NAZ Elite in 2022, contributing to the team's third-place finish at the USATF Club Cross Country Championships. In the 2023 indoor track season, she achieved multiple wins and personal bests in various events, including the 800 meters and mile. The season culminated with a third-place finish in the 1500 meters at the USATF Indoor Championships. Her outdoor season has been one for the record books with victories in the steeplechase at the ON Track Fest and the BAA Invitational Mile. Most notable of all, Krissy won the steeplechase at the 2023 USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships, securing her first national title and a spot in the World Championships. With her dedication, talent, remarkable achievements, and kind heart, Krissy has become an inspiring figure in the world of track and field.
In today's conversation, Krissy and I dive into a plethora of topics including phone service in Europe, belief, having fun with the sport, working on detachment from outcome, the whole journey of winning a US title, and much more. Being able to see what Krissy has done is nothing short of impactful, and this conversation was such an awesome opportunity to learn from her.
