US inflation slowed to its lowest rate in more than four years last month.

That's an unexpected and welcome development at a time when tariffs are expected to cause

prices to rise. Consumer prices rose 0.2% in April, bringing the annual inflation rate to 2.3%, which is a cooler

reading than the 2.4% seen in March.

Economists had expected inflation to rise, but the figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics

show prices didn't rise as much as they thought they would.

And the data comes as the US and China announced they were rolling back tariffs on each

other's goods for 90 days.

That's sent U.S. stocks surging, and has economists feeling cautiously optimistic.

President Donald Trump will be hoping to boost U.S. investments as part of his trip to

the Middle East this week.
