Tuesday, May 13th. U.S. inflation unexpectedly cooled in April,

dropping to its lowest level in more than four years at 2.3%.

That's despite economists fearing that President Donald Trump's tariffs would drive prices higher.

So while overall consumer prices remained relatively tame,

tariffs on certain goods, especially from China, did make some things more expensive.

The Trump administration temporarily reduced tariffs on China over the weekend.

But import taxes have already made baby gear, power drills, mattresses, and other everyday products more expensive for Americans.

And tariff revenue surged last month.

The Treasury Department reports the U.S. collected about $16.3 billion in customs duties,

roughly a $7.6 billion jump from the month before.

But experts warn that these gains come at a cost, with businesses and consumers

footing the bill and economic damage likely to grow over time. The White House announced that
