Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Tuesday, May 13th.

President Donald Trump has arrived in Saudi Arabia for the first leg of his trip to the Middle East. It's the first major international trip of his second term, and he'll also visit Qatar and the UAE.

Today, he's meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who gave him a royal welcome.

Then Trump's billed to give a talk at a U.S.-S.-Saudi investment forum, where Elon Musk is also listed

as a speaker.

CNN's Paula Hancox has more.

Well, Joe, these three nations are key to the U.S. president's agenda and ambitions.

We should expect a number of large deals announced

over the next four days. Trump has already said he wants $1 trillion of investments from Riyadh alone.

But there is also a diplomatic angle. Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE have all been billing themselves

as key mediators in different conflicts,

whether Israel, Gaza, Russia, Ukraine, or dealings with China or Iran.

The Gulf states for their part are looking for closer relations with the US and reassurance

of the US security commitment.

Ahead of Trump's trip to Qatar, the president is facing backlash for potentially accepting

a luxury jet from the country's royal family.

It's caused outcry even amongst his staunchest supporters.
