Indiana, you have reports in a scholarly journal that Jews were in the Roman army.

This is really a breakthrough study that I think is of special interest and has so many

implications. It seems Jews made up up to 15% of the population.

Maybe 4.5 to 7 million Jews lived in the ancient Roman Empire around the first century.

The percentage would vary from 5 to 15% based on what number you choose.

As the Empire expanded, they needed soldiers for the new campaigns to maintain order across

the Empire. Jews were too big of a group.

Some were exempted from religious grounds, but that was only to induce others to serve.

All of the ethnic minorities were required to serve in the army.

They had their own rules. Jewish dietary rules are more complex than others.

They found in places that a whole variety of foods, including seafood and fish, so that

the Jews didn't eat pork as did other groups not eat pork at that time.

They were finding ways that the Jews could observe their dietary restrictions.
