Canada and India exchanging remarks that are extremely unhappy given the condition of the world right now,

and camps, drawing up in Europe over the European conflict, one more turn in the road.

The death of a Canadian citizen, Hardeep Singh Nijar.

The death happened in the middle of June. We're just now learning about the allegations by the Canadian government.

That would be in the person of the Prime Minister, Mr. Trudeau, and the response from India by the Narendra Modi government.

I welcome Tunku Veridarajan, a contributing writer for the Wall Street Journal editorial page,

and a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute who's publishing in the Wall Street Journal today.

What we understand so far of these exchanges of allegations and remarks.

Tunku, a very good evening to you. The allegation made by the Prime Minister and Parliament.

What it was striking to me is that Parliament is not the place to adjudicate what appears to be a capital crime.

First, my concern is how this is being heard in India.

Tunku, as of Indian descent, he's a British citizen. Tunku, please explain how India is hearing these allegations from the Prime Minister.

India and Canada, you wouldn't expect them to be in conflict. It's one of those rare events in the affairs of man.

How are Indians seeing this? Indians are indignant. The Indians are angry, actually.

When we say Indians, I mean a combination of the government of India and nationalist Indians who are by no means all Indians.

But speaking for the Indian government, the Indian government has reacted to Mr. Trudeau's statement in Parliament in the House of Commons in Canada,

saying that he had credible allegations. He didn't, to my mind, use the word evidence.

He said credible allegations that India had bumped off a Canadian citizen in Canada.

Now, that's a pretty grave accusation to hell against a friendly country by another friendly country.
