Today's 10 minute walk is helping you stay fitness consistent, so let's go for a walk.

I want to talk about pace, how fast we're walking.

I am probably walking maybe three miles an hour.

I might even be walking a little less than three miles an hour.

When I'm recording the podcast, I tend to walk slower than when I am not recording.

But when I'm not recording, oftentimes the pace that I'm walking is between three and four miles an hour.

In fact, I did a test just to determine, so how fast do I actually walk?

We have a lake near where we live that has a paved trail around the lake

and the trail is marked off. It's a little bit more than a mile, but you can see on the pavement

where the mile starts and where it ends. And so I walked that mile without trying to do anything crazy.

It wasn't, I had to tell myself, okay, you're not trying to set a speed record here. Just walk at a pace that is comfortable,

that would be normal and let's see how long it takes. And it took a little less than 15 minutes, which would put me at a pace that's a little faster than 4 miles an hour.

So typically my walking pace is on the faster end of the spectrum, except when I'm recording the podcast.

That's probably one to two miles an hour because I'm so focused on looking at the camera, thinking about what I'm saying, and not wanting to trip.

Because when I'm looking at the camera, I'm not looking around it at what's going on.

So that's a really slow pace.

But the experts recommend that we go at about three to four miles an hour.

That's the pace that moves walking from a casual activity, still with benefits,

And that three to four miles an hour is considered moderate level fitness activity.
