Late one night, I received a panicky phone call from the manager of the horseboarding facility

where I kept my horse. It was a stormy night, and she was alone at the barn. The electricity had gone off,

and she was frightened as many of the horses were panicking in their stalls. As I drove to the barn, I prayed to get a clearer

sense of God's love that was present right there. I knew nothing could separate those horses

from divine love, which is another name for God, and that each horse could feel the comforting

arms of this love surrounding them. It was a 20-minute drive to the

barn and as I drove, I sang the first verse of one of my favorite hymns from the Christian Science

hymnal. In heavenly love abiding, no change my heart shall fear, and safe is such confiding, for nothing changes here.

The storm may roar without me, my heart may low be laid, but God is round about me,

and can I be dismayed?

As I pulled into the parking lot, the thought came to make hot bran mash, something that was always a huge

favourite with the horses. With the manager's help, I quickly mixed up a large batch of bran, molasses,

grain, apples and carrots. The aroma filled the entire barn, and the horses became so focused on

the treat that their stomping and

whinnying ceased, and by the time they had finished eating, they were completely calm, and the

storm had abated. It's so reassuring to know that God's love for his spiritual creation is all

encompassing, and envelops every idea from the smallest to the largest.

Each one is divinely created and maintained and is known to God.

I felt a deep sense of humility and gratitude to God, recognizing that no matter what situation seems to confront
