Hi, I'm Justin Spillers. I'm one of the owners of Real Estate Alpha. We have a multifamily

value ad company about 850 apartments today. We're going to be about 1,100 apartments this

summer, 26. So pretty exciting growth. This is the last podcast I have in our podcast takeover.

I want to just run through the two main paths of real estate investing, being active or

passive and just my journey and some highlights along it to maybe help you either decide what

lane you want to be, be a catalyst for you to take action and actually invest in your first deal,

etc. So kind of going to go over the map on this episode, but really wanted to dive in and give you a

real life example. I've been doing this for over 10 years now. I have a pretty interesting

backstory in that I was a real estate attorney prior. Not a lot of people have that arrow in their

quiver, but it doesn't change the path and how it could help you as well. So really where it started,

I always knew I wouldn't be an entrepreneur. I went to law school because my father-in-law told me that's the best place to start if you want to be an entrepreneur. He had a really successful business. So I went there to try to figure things out. Kind of fell in love with business and real estate scaling, growing companies. Stayed being an attorney for a little over seven years, mostly because I had to pay off

my student loans, but simultaneously it started and started experimenting with multiple businesses,

one being investing in real estate.

Got super interested in it, read the same books everybody else does.

Rich Dad, Poor Dad, They Can Grow Rich.

A lot of those self-help, personal development books a lot of them talk

about real estate and it being one of the the options that a lot of wealthy people do either as

their active operating business or it's their passive place that they park all their income a

really great example Alex Formosie huge fan of he has a great podcast episode on this of how he takes

off his active income and invests it primarily into real estate for a lot of the tax benefits

and the passive benefits. So find that episode, it's really good. Similar type episodes of that
