The first weekend in August was a tragic one for the United States.

22 people were killed as a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas, and another nine were shot

dead at a bar in Dayton, Ohio.

In the immediate aftermath of the attacks, President Trump said,

in one voice, our nation must condemn racism, bigotry, and white supremacy.

These sinister ideologies must be defeated.

Hate has no place in America.

But critics pointed out that some of the President's statements on immigration in recent times

contained language that wasn't too dissimilar from that used by the 21-year-old suspect

in the El Paso shooting, who minutes before the attack allegedly wrote and published a manifesto

online railing against immigration, saying, this attack is a response to the Hispanic

invasion of Texas.

Here's what Donald Trump said in June.

Mexico should step up and stop this onslaught, this invasion into our country.

He also referred to immigration as an invasion in more than 2000 Facebook adverts published

this year.

In fact, his immigration rhetoric can be traced back to his presidential campaign announcement

speech in 2015.

When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best.

They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists, and some I assume are

good people.
