I was trying to teach these kids that, you know, reading from a book doesn't make you a racist.

And it's the intent behind the word.

When we skip over words, you distance yourself from what the author wanted you to feel.

His performance was caught on a student's camera and has now gone viral.

Well, a girl asked me point blank.

She goes, if you were reading the book, would

you say the word? And I said, if I was reading the book, I would read every word. In that moment,

a boy handed me the book, and he says, okay, then do it. There's now a change.org petition

with hundreds of signatures asking the district to bring

him back. Because he's a really good teacher. It was started by freshman Peyton Johnson. And you can read

some of the students' comments. They're all in my favor. After I read that book, I had students

thanking me for the lesson. I got my first death threat on X. Okay. Yeah. Somebody said to get your casket ready.
