Summary

Patrick is back after his Pat-ernity leave with Leo the little lion man. In this dense episode:

  • The guys ask what milk is made of blood and discuss the logistics of taping knives to various animal's legs. They wrap up that disucssion with a riveting conversation about wind resistance.
  • Then, inexplicably, Patrick goes after golf courses. At one point, Ethan slams his pen on his desk in frustration. It brings up an interesting tension between (a) unproductive and wasteful beautiful spaces and (b) utilitarian and cost-effective lifeless spaces.
  • As you might expect, they talk about how mega-suburbia is awful for the human condition and ask how Americans got there.
  • At one in that discussion, Ethans demands Patrick to "explain the Chinese."
  • Also, what are the merits of single family homes? Patrick experiences cognitive dissonance. Ethan issues a disclaimer that he is "uncultured, and generally dumb."
  • In case you were wondering, the structures of classical liberalism faciliated WWII. Wait, are WWI and WWII actually two distinct wars? Patrick suggest no, Ethan thinks yes.
  • WAR! (Hoo! Yeah!) What is it good for? Promoting totalistic statism and individualistic hedonism!
  • Introducing a new segment! POTW! Y'oull have to listen to find out.
  • The good Doctor Ethan - the self-described fun uncle at the party - drops Wisdom on Sophie (anybody? no?) in DEDC.
  • A special post-outro clip, because both Camille Guidry and I think they are funny. Thanks, Camille.

I don't know what you're, I don't know what you're doing.

1:44.6

Oh. You're like, you're like, yeah, when I was gone for my wedding, you must have missed me a lot. When I was on my honeymoon, I thought about you, didn't, I didn't think about you. I didn't have time to think about you while on paternity leave because... Yeah, you were busy. Yeah, it was busy. Life events only take two weeks. All of our life events only take two weeks. Marriages. Two weeks. Babies. Two weeks. Two weeks. And then... Funerals. Funerals less. Less time. We need to do like the Irish funeral. Yeah. where they, it's like everybody kind of walks through the house and it takes, you know, a month to do it. Yeah. Or whatever. We got to do that. Anyway, you were talking about your mom-in-law? My mother-in-law, yeah. So we were, we were doing like a dinner yesterday. We were like, I don't know what to make.

1:46.0

We had a bunch of hot dogs, baked beans.

1:50.0

And Terry Johnson was like, you know what? I haven't had a brusky in a good long time.

1:59.2

And I'm like, let's go.

2:00.7

She said brusky, huh?

2:02.8

She did. A wobbly pop.

2:05.8

Sure, I guess. Is that what they call it in Kansas?

2:08.7

Yeah, you drink too many of them. You get a little wobbly.

2:10.4

And yeah, so I grabbed one of those and hit it in my lunchbox so that I could record with a little bruising. Yeah. Nice. What happens if someone, I've actually never seen anybody open that door. That's behind you. Which one? The one. That one or that one? The one immediately behind you. See, that one is a closet. That one leads to the hallway. Oh. So that is just the opposite of what I thought this whole time. Yeah, so the painting, the painting is barricading the door so no one can come in. Sure, because they can't, yeah, they can't get through it. No, I'm just kidding. That does go to the hallway. Why would you do this to me? I thought it was funny if you thought that I barricaded my door shut. I mean, it's funny for us here because I can see it. But for everybody else is strongly. Why did you put your crucifix over the closet door? Yeah. That doesn't make any sense. That's odd. What was, I was going to say something about your family and about this podcast and about beer and about drinking? That's the second good podcast name that you've come up with.

3:08.7

I was going to say something.

3:09.8

The other podcast name that you said earlier that I think would be a good podcast name is, can I just say something real quick? Can I say something real quick? That's a really good. That's a really good podcast name. Here's the thing. I'm pretty sure here's the thing is already a podcast. Yeah, that sounds like a. Hold on, hold on.

3:21.9

I can see it in my head.
