Thank you so much for being here today. Today we're listening to episode 78 and I'm talking

with Sam Gardner. Sam has been a listener of the show for some time and we connected

through that and she has the sweetest little southern accent you have ever heard. I tried to

say that without trying to do a southern accent and I feel like I kind of failed. But anyway,

in 2005 when Sam was training for her second half marathon, she was brutally attacked and raped

several times. And 10 years later, over 10 years now, she talks about her journey, her healing

process and how she has found freedom and redemption and victory and running since then.

Since her attack, she's gone on to marry a wonderful man and she's run several races and

marathons. She actually won a marathon in 303 just a couple of years ago and she holds a PR

of 302 and and is chasing that elusive three hour marathon breaking that VR marathon. But we do

get a little bit intense in the discussion and in what she's been through. And so if you do normally

listen to your children or little people, you might want to censor this part of this conversation

from them at least. I hope you guys love this conversation with Sam and I hope it helps you walk

away feeling hopeful and courageous and just knowing that there are struggles we're all going to

go through struggles in our lives. That is going to happen but we can come out of it on the other side.

And one thing I love so much that Sam said in this conversation and in her and in her email to

me is that she really felt that she went from victim to victorious and just the emotions and the

feelings that she felt crossing that finish line and breaking that tape after overcoming so much.

How meaningful that was and and how running has really been a part of her healing process.
