The Michael Berry show you probably know by now that at 1031 last night

Houston's mayor John Whitmire wrote an email

ostensibly to Houston City employees that of course went immediately to the media

that said that Houston's police chief Troy Finner had resigned and retired last night.

That timing is quite interesting because today is the city council meeting.

The city council schedule is Tuesday afternoon is what is known as pop-off.

And that's where the public can come down and reserve time of up to three

minutes to speak their mind before city council on anything and that's what's

broadcast on the municipal channel as well as the following day

Wednesday morning and the idea is you could speak on an issue that's on the agenda

today Wednesday morning the Houston City Council meets at the regularly scheduled full meeting.

So, last night late, which could be argued that it was released to avoid a media cycle

last night. It's also the case that there were some late night developments

that I think were intended to forestall a further investigation by the media into what was happening with the chief.

Two journalists in town deserve a great deal of credit. The one who brought this issue up,

the one who brought this issue up in February, which was when the public became aware of the scandal for years that the top brass at the

Houston Police Department were simply dismissing cases of rape due to supposed lack of

manpower. That is scandalous. I would argue it's criminal because those cases have victims.

Now people will tell you, eh, some of those are sketchy, sure.

But there's no investigation done to know.

And that also means, as we all know, this isn't a believe all women. Some women make things up.

They're caught with drugs, they claim they were raped. They're caught in a crime, claim they're fleeing sure this every
