Summary

This week, we answer a listener question from Maxine, who asked about the best ways to sell art online. This is a huge topic and perhaps a little ambitious for a one-hour episode, but we decided to give it our best shot! In a wide-ranging discussion, we discuss the importance of a website and email list as a "home base" for your marketing, so that no matter where people find you, they can sign up to stay in touch. But we also cover other options and ways to get started if you don't yet have a website, including social media, licensing opportunities and third party websites such as Saatchi Art.  And we stress that even when you do have a website, it's not enough to just set it up and then wait for people to arrive. You will always need to drive traffic to your site and finding ways to do this is an important element of your marketing strategy.

Yes, that's quite nice when it happens, isn't it, when you kind of think, oh, I'm not sure if that one's ever going to go, I really like that one.

0:07.0

And then you just get a little ping, you think, oh, good, I know where it's going. going. Hi and welcome to episode 104 of art juice. This is honest, generous and humorous conversations to feed your creative soul and to get you thinking with me Louise Fletcher

0:39.0

Before we get to that, let's just catch up with what we've been up to so tell me about your week Alice

0:45.8

it's being more settled actually it's been it's been busy it's been quite full but it's felt more settled. It's always like that at the beginning of January

0:55.8

when you make a little bit of an effort to do things in a conscious way before

0:59.6

everything goes pear-shaped again. But I have felt each day that I'm doing more or less what I intended to do when I

1:10.0

intended to do it and I have been much better when I get to the end of the day of going, well, I have done enough now, I'm stopping for the day.

1:16.0

Because it can go on forever. It's not going to go on forever.

1:19.0

So I felt kind of a little bit more grounded about things. I felt like I've had time I'm understanding a bit more where I spend my time. It's just a perpetual thing but it's it's felt kind of quite good this week. So I've unpacked new art materials I was priming yesterday I got a

1:37.0

whole load of smaller ones longer ones interesting different so yeah, unpacked that. Put together reels yesterday.

1:47.1

Oh, I didn't see that, I missed that somehow. That was my first, that was my thing, wasn't it, last week week I mentioned I wanted to do reels or a video or something or an extra or a blog. So yesterday I thought well I'll try and put something together about unpacking of this. I also volunteered to make an art materials guide.

2:07.3

So I'm going to be doing that at some point. But it was quite fun, but I'd completely forgotten how you do reels since the last time I did it.

2:16.0

But it was, yeah, I think it felt easier this time because last time I thought you had to put all the text on at each little section of video and now I realize that you can adjust the way you put the text you can do all of that at the end so you can load up and

2:34.7

clip all your video bits together and then just put any text that you want on it.

2:39.5

Now I quite enjoyed doing it.

2:40.8

I've got to learn that I did one but it was how I ever managed to get it to work. I've no idea. You know how you fumble through and somehow there's a video at the end? So I need to learn like the idea of actually clipping things together on purpose and editing things and all that I haven't

2:58.0

a clue but I would like to do it because they do look good when you see them.

3:01.5

But it's quite fun and I think just realizing that you can do like 15

3:05.8

seconds is so short so you can choose between 15 seconds or 30 seconds and so I've been having a look through some others and just quite

3:16.8

enjoying some of the things have made me laugh and I've quite enjoyed that element of it so we'll see I don't know what I can do that's funny

3:26.0

funny in the studio though although lots of you said that I pulled a funny face good
