Learning to manage difficult emotions is key to remaining calm during trying times. Discover how you respond emotionally when your parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system is triggered.   You might not consider your negative thoughts as thieves. I'm Mary Meckley, and I welcome you to day six of our series we've been exploring this week all about the third yama from

0:20.1

the ancient Indian sage Pantanjali who wrote a classic book, The Yoga Sutras, and in the book,

0:32.0

He shares five yamas and five nyamas. We've been exploring the yamas.

0:40.7

The yamas are a way to live correctly, to live mindfully in the moment and we are exploring the third yama this week. The third yama has to do with non-stealing and mostly in regard to how we live our modern life, we often let our negative thoughts

1:12.3

steal away from our joy in the present moment.

1:17.6

You might feel as though you're not enough.

1:23.5

And imagine how much this robs you

1:26.9

of the richness and joy and opportunities

1:29.9

available in your life.

1:33.1

with you a way to layer together the different meditation techniques you've been exploring all week long

2:07.6

so that you can see how to put these techniques,

2:15.0

you might think, I layer several techniques together.

2:17.6

Meditation techniques, you might think,

2:20.8

are not so necessary. But if you've ever tried to sit down, close your eyes, and

2:27.6

instantly be transported into a state of stillness, you may realize it is a little more challenging than it looks.

2:38.0

So, meditation techniques help you transition from whatever you were doing out there in the

2:48.9

world to a state of inner stillness. So they help you become more interiorized, letting go of the

2:59.2

distractions, and focus more on the mindful moment.
