The rally pedals replace the old Garmin vector pedals that people used to use for a power meter.

Now, why a lot of people ended up going with pedal-based power meters is because you can switch it from bike to bike to bike.

But as Garmin has admitted, the vectors just weren't as reliable as they like them to be.

So they ended up rebuilding them and rebranding them to the rally pedals.

Now, I just got my rally pedals this week and put them on my bike for the first ride yesterday.

And they're good.

Like, the power was a lot more consistent than I've heard them to be with the vector pedals.

Now, the issue with the vector pedals was that they were very, very finicky, and how hard you

tightened them made a big, big difference in whether the pedal was reading

reliable power, producing reliable power.

So I ended up doing a test yesterday where, as opposed to even looking at the tightness,

the Newton meters that I ended up tightening the pedals to, I just tighten them by hand to see if they

would calibrate well. And sure enough, everything that I expected, as far as when I looked down

at the ride power, it was pretty much bang on. And I was pretty impressed with that. Now,

you can go with a couple of different options.

You can go with the Garmin rally pedals for road bikes and tri-bikes.

You can go with Garmin rally pedals for cross-country bikes.

So the bike that I ended up putting them on yesterday were the mountain and gravel bike specific pedals that just use the regular

Shemano SPD clip ends. And I liked it. I was into it. Very easy to set up, just like any other

pedal, screw them in. I screwed them in by hand, do a calibration, and then they connect to everything.
