Summary

Episode 123 of The Speaker Lab is unlike any other episode we've done before! In essence today's show is a one-on-one coaching call I had with a listener who emailed me.

I wanted to share our conversation with you because his story is common: he has done a number of free speaking gigs but wasn't sure about how to move into the paid realm. He also wasn't sure how to narrow down his list of potential audiences and topics.

On today's edition of The Speaker Lab, Chris Field joins me to gain clarity on those topics and more. Listen in to hear his stories (including his run for mayor at the age of 19!), and our brainstorming session on this coaching call. You'll hear how all of that applies to you wherever you are in your speaking journey on episode 123 of The Speaker Lab.

THE FINER DETAILS OF THIS SHOW:

  • How do you know if your speaking plan makes financial sense?
  • Why is the audience you speak to a variable in what you can charge?
  • What are the 5 components of the speaker success roadmap?
  • What are the 7 major industries you can speak to?
  • How to know if you are on the right path, or if you need to pivot.
  • What does integrity have to do with your choice of speaking topics?
  • Why it is ideal that you find something other speakers are already doing.
  • What is the reason organizations ultimately hire someone?
  • And so much more!

Hey, what if I told you that there was a single marketing asset that you could use to book tens of thousands of dollars in paid speaking gigs before you even have a website?

0:10.2

Well, that tool exists.

0:11.4

And Dan Irvin, one of the speakers on our team, used it to book over $36,000 in speaking gigs without a fancy website or any social media presence.

0:19.6

Even better, we're going to teach you exactly how

0:22.1

to create that tool for your speaking business in under an hour. For a limited time, we're going to

0:26.9

be offering a free live training on how to build and use this marketing asset to start booking

paid gigs in just a few weeks. If you want to hear more, go to thespeakalab.com slash marketing.

So I had a guy that reached out to me and had a bunch of questions. And so we were kind of emailing back and forth. I was helping him with a couple things. And he said, hey, man, I've done a lot of speaking before. I wouldn't

1:46.3

say maybe a lot. I've done some speaking before. But I'm just, I'm having trouble narrowing down who I want to speak to, what I want to speak about. And I'm just having trouble kind of getting some traction. I'm also trying to figure out if speaking is a good fit for me. And, you know, he said

1:58.3

he's already got an existing business and he's got his hands full, but is indefinitely

2:01.8

intrigued by speaking and just kind of just doesn't know where to start. fit for me. And, you know, he said he's already got an existing business and he's got his hands

2:00.8

full, but is indefinitely intrigued by speaking and just kind of just doesn't know where to start. And this is a, his story is very similar to a lot of stories that I hear from speakers that are, I'm really intrigued. I just don't know where to start. I've done a little bit of speaking, but I'm trying to figure out what to do from here. Part of the challenge was he had a bunch of different things he's interested in speaking about and a bunch of potential topics

2:20.1

that he could talk about had a bunch of different things he's

2:17.5

interested in speaking about and a bunch of potential topics that he could talk about, a bunch of potential audiences that he could speak to. So he was having trouble starting to just kind of, how do you narrow that down? How do you start to figure that out? So we had a great conversation just to help him bring some more clarification to that of who he should talk to, what he should talk about,

2:34.6

and how he should actually go about finding and booking paid speaking engagement. So that's what

2:39.1

this conversation is. And I think you're basically kind of a coaching call that you can eavesdrop in on.

2:44.0

And I think you're really going to enjoy it. So let's get right into it. Here's my coaching call

2:47.6

conversation with Chris Field. Enjoy.

2:54.5
