Today I spoke with Dr. Nancy Clemmas about myelgic encephalitis, aka chronic fatigue syndrome.

And I really wanted to hone in on how do we as clinicians or someone suffering with this

determine the appropriate level of exercise because in this patient subgroup

they don't just get tired from exercise they get totally wiped out and this is something

challenging in the clinic in terms of, you know, how do we navigate finding and keeping someone below that threshold?

We want people to get some activity and build up some conditioning in their system, of course.

But in these subjects, they can really have the days down after over-exerting themselves.

And Nancy is a researcher and a clinician in this area, and she gave some great specifics

for how to monitor someone's heart rate and use that to dial in what an acceptable

level of exercise for that person can be. She also reinforced the importance of natural and

integrative medicine in the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome, mentioning a few pivotal supports, antioxidants, anti-inflammatories,

antivirals, mitochondrial support, and also ensuring one has adequate salt and electrolyte intake.

And she also discussed at the very end some research she's working on, which may actually be curative for chronic fatigue syndrome.
